Start date: 6 Jun 2024
End date: 7 Jun 2024
Registration deadline: 15 Apr 2024

Interactions are central to our daily work, be it in meetings, exchanges, workshops, or trainings. Facilitation is the art of understanding, designing, and guiding these interactions. However, we often stick to conventional collaboration methods such as presentations, group discussions, and brainstorming sessions. In this training, we aim to expand your facilitation skills to make exchanges more engaging, inclusive, and efficient. We will discuss the roles and challenges of a facilitator and practice creative methodologies and tools that can be applied in various situations.

A main focus will lie on practical examples of facilitation in conflict-affected contexts. Participants will learn how to adapt facilitation techniques to challenging circumstances with different stakeholders – both online and in-person. Together, we will collect best practices on how to ensure a productive and collaborative environment in our (daily) work as peacebuilders, development, or humanitarian workers.

Course objectives:

  • Get to know different moderation and facilitation tools aimed at making your interactions more efficient, inclusive and engaging;
  • Practice your facilitation skills and learn how to plan, design, and implement your next facilitation project;
  • Explore best practices and lessons learned through case studies of online and offline facilitation in conflict-affected contexts;
  • Reflect on your own facilitation practice;
  • Exchange experiences and become part of a community of practice.
